The driving question that I have chosen to follow is: How does pediatric cancer affect the lives of youth when it comes to not just the ailment, but with real life as well? The story behind the question/idea of pediatric cancer is that I have always wanted to be a doctor. Through the years, I have realized that in order to profit from such a job, one must specialize. As time has gone on, I have seen more and more things on T.V., throughout schools, and in the community, about Pediatric Cancer, specifically Leukemia. Therefore, because it is best to choose a topic that has to do with a future career path, I figured, why not do it on this?
Dealing with the physical project aspect of my Senior Seminar project, I feel as though, I want to do something to benefit children dealing with cancer, whether it is monetarily, or emotionally. I would hope that sometime in November, I could host a holiday part for affected youth. Even though, November is early for Christmas, Kwanza, and Hanukah, children should be allowed to celebrate more than once. I would ask local businesses and churches to donate small gifts in order to give the children and essentially have a good time.
In order to effectively research this topic. I would have to search Adult Cancer as well as Pediatric Cancer. From my perspective, in order to effectively define pediatric cancer, I must first know from which standpoint I am defining it. Sources that will serve as my topic overview source could be medical journals and they, in turn, may serve as a research keystone. Essentially, in order to be able to make a solid argument on this topic, it will require a great deal of time and effort. I must rewind back a little bit to arrive at a solid place.
I believe that my mentor will assist me in keeping an effective timeline for different parts of the project, as well as, helping me find ways in which to execute my physical project. Nevertheless, to every good success, there are problems. Problems that I foresee are procrastination and taking on too much at one time. I am an “overachiever” and with this, I may set goals that are not necessarily unattainable, but just not accomplishable due to the time we have for this course. Regardless, I think I will achieve a great turnout.
